Prayer and Worship

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School exists to assist the Church in her mission to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). In doing so, OLMC School strives to be faithful to the Magisterium and Catechism of the Catholic Church. A deep love of Jesus Christ is fostered through participation in the Sacraments and opportunities for prayer, thus giving students a foundation in their faith and forming them as strong moral and virtuous leaders capable of being intelligent witnesses of the Gospel. OLMC School warmly welcomes families of other faiths but asks that our distinctive Catholic identity be respected. In all of our instruction, we are respectful of other faiths while humbly imparting the truths of our Catholic faith.

As members of the Body of Christ, we are all called to actively worship and come to know God through prayer, adoration, liturgy, traditions and celebrations.  Spiritual Life is an incredibly strong part of the OLMC community.  Parents, parishioners, faculty, staff, and students regularly pray and worship together.  OLMC opportunities for spiritual growth include:

  • Morning and afternoon prayers 
  • Daily religion classes are taught as a core subject
  • Prayer integrated into the daily classroom routine
  • Weekly all-school Masses 
  • All-school Masses on Holy Days of Obligation
  • First Friday Adoration for all grade levels in honor of the Sacred Heart
  • Sacramental preparation in second grade for Reconciliation
  • First Holy Communion preparation supported by parish programs
  • Parent prayer group
  • Parents, Teachers, and Staff serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
  • Student led “Living Rosary” prayed by the whole school in October
  • Catholic Schools Week to celebrate Catholic education in January
  • Weekly Stations of the Cross during Lent
  • Students perform the Living Stations of the Cross during Holy Week
  • School-wide Faith Day to grow in devotion to the Eucharist
  • A Catholic Bee to encourage students to learn more about their faith
  • School-wide May Procession, in honor of Our Lady, in May
  • Traveling Pilgrim Virgin Mary Statue
  • Virtue program
  • Retreats for 5-8th grade students
  • Times of adoration in OLMC School Chapel
