What type of curriculum do you offer?
OLMC School follows the Diocese of Richmond Consensus Curriculum, which is based on National Standards and is consistent with State of Virginia guidelines. A reference copy is available on the Diocesan website for review http://www.richmonddiocese.org.
What is the average class size?
The average class size at OLMC School is 17 students.
Is OLMC School accredited?
OLMC School is fully accredited by AdvacED. AdvancED is the largest community of education professionals in the world. They are a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews of Pre-K-12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential.
What are the credentials for OLMC School teachers?
The accrediting institution AdvancED, requires that teachers have at least a bachelor’s degree and be licensed and certified. Not only are OLMC School teachers licensed and certified, but half possess master’s degrees.
Does my child need to take a placement test before being accepted?
All students are expected to take a placement/readiness test to assess grade appropriateness and math level for seventh and eighth grade students.
Does OLMC School offer before/after care?
OLMC School offers before care daily, starting at 6:30 am. Aftercare is provided daily on site by the Newport News Youth Programs from 3:00 to 6:30 pm.
What are Service Hours?
In an effort to keep tuition costs low, OLMC requires each registered family to complete 30 service hours per year for a two parent household, or 20 hours for a one parent household or a household with a deployed spouse. These hours are activities that we would otherwise have to pay someone to complete and may be done through the classrooms, sports programs or school special events, just to name a few.
Do you have a bus service?
Yes! The school provides bus service to and from school for those interested. Please contact the main office for more details regarding bus routes and fees.
How do you collect tuition?
Tuition may be paid in full directly to the school by mid-August each year or in 10 monthly payments, from August-May, through the FACTS Management Company automated payment system.
If I register after the beginning of the year, do I have to pay full tuition?
When registering after the beginning of the school year, tuition will be prorated to reflect only those days you attend school.
Are the General Fees prorated if you enroll after the beginning of the school year?
No, general fees are not prorated since the books and associated costs are the same whether you attend for 18 or 180 days.
Do you have Financial Aid?
Financial Aid is available through both the Catholic Diocese of Richmond and Our Lady of Mount Carmel School to those families who demonstrate need and qualify through the FACTS Grant and Aid process. To apply, please visit https://www.factstuitionaid.com/facts/gaindex.
