"Welcome to 6B"

    Dear Parents,

    Welcome to Sixth Grade Science and Math, Math 7 and Pre-Algebra! It is my pleasure to have your child in my classes. Beginning middle school is a big change for students and parents, and I look forward to working with you this year.

    While pursing the dynamic and fascinating subjects of math and science, your child will participate in a variety of activities including discussions, cooperative learning, role-playing, research, and hands-on activities. In order to be successful with these activities, your child needs to bring the following supplies to class each day for both subjects.

  • textbook
  • homemade “white board”
  • agenda
  • accordion folder
  • loose-leaf paper
  • sharpened pencils or mechanical pencil
  • composition book
  • pens (1 – 2 blue or black, 1 red, green, or purple)
  • glue stick and scissors
  • dry erase marker

  • Grades will be determined as follows and are detailed further in the class expectations.

    Graded Assignments = 25%
    Tests and Projects = 50%
    Homework = 15%
    Notebooks = 5%
    Signed Papers = 5%

    I know that academic success is important to both you and your child. In order to create a classroom environment where all students can achieve this success, I enforce classroom rules based on respect and responsibility. It is imperative that your child follows the rules and expectations set forth in the link for my rules and expectations. We have discussed these rules and expectations in class, and I encourage you to read them and discuss them with your child. Please sign the bottom portion of this letter attached below and keep the rest of it for reference.

    In addition, safety is of primary importance in the classroom. For this reason, I have sent home the Science Safety Contract for my science classes. It must be signed by the student and at least one parent or guardian and returned by Friday, August 27, 2010.

    If you have any questions or would like to talk to me for any reason, please contact me at school at 596-2754. If you need to leave a message, I will return calls as soon as possible. Please leave day and evening contact numbers.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Rizzi
