The Saint Thomas Aquinas Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society was established at OLMC in the spring of 2005. It is open to 7th and 8th graders who exhibit outstanding scholarship, leadership, character, service and citizenship*. NJHS is primarily a service organization and members give their time to benefit the school, the parish and the community. The selection process involves many steps.
- Students’ end of the year grades from the previous school year and the first report card grades of the current school year are checked to make sure the student has a 92 GPA in core classes and no Ds or Fs in electives. Grades are not rounded up.
- Students who are eligible academically are given an application to complete documenting specific examples of service, leadership, extracurricular activities etc.
- The faculty and staff are given a list of students who turn in applications to consider and provide comments if desired.
- The faculty committee meets to review the documentation and select the group of students to be offered membership to the NJHS.
- Also, students must attend OLMC for the equivalent of one semester before they are considered for membership.
