Feast of St. Rose of Lima
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope that you and your family had a relaxing and blessed summer and that you are ready for a new school year. I am so happy to be with you at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It was wonderful to meet so many of you on Thursday. What a blessing it is to have your child in my class. Each child, with his or her own personality and talents, makes our classroom a special place. I look forward to getting to know them and learning from them.
Although this is my first year at OLMC, I already feel very much welcomed into this beautiful community. Originally, I am from Indiana, and after a few years of college entered the Dominican Sisters. I have taught in primary grades in Tennessee, Maryland, and Georgia and recently completed my Masters in Education at Xavier University. I hope to work together with you, the primary educator, to provide many enriching learning experiences for your child. I feel very blessed to work with Mrs. Cecilia Rennix, who will be teaching science to your child while I teach religion to her fourth grade class.
I will be explaining and giving you a packet of information detailing our classroom policies and procedures when we meet for K-5 Back to School Night on September 2 from 6:00-8:00. I would like to mention a few things now to help both you and your child for this coming week.
Thank you for making sure that your child has all the supplies on the supply list. They will also need to bring in their dictionary that they bought last year and a sock to use as an eraser for their white board.
Your child will bring home a take home folder and their agenda each day. Your child will write their homework in their agenda each day. This is their responsibility! Please check their agenda each night. I will highlight the assignment in their agenda to indicate to you if they forget their homework. I also use the agenda as a communication tool if I need to let you know about behavior.
We will have a snack during our short morning break each day. Please send one small nutritious snack they can eat quickly and neatly (crackers, nuts, pretzels, cut-up fruit). Please do not send drinks, fruit cups, or anything too messy or sugary.
Your child will be bringing home their textbooks this week to cover at home. Please have them bring them back the next day.
Please do not hesitate to reach me at school by leaving a voice message (Ext. 250), or by sending a note with your child whenever you have any concerns. Our communication is essential for your child’s success. Together, with Jesus as our source of strength and grace, let us work for the good of the children. Please know of my prayers for your family as we begin a new year together. Please pray for me too!
In Christ,
Sister Mary Grace
